Carassauga Festival of Cultures from SNAPD North Mississauga, July 2016, p. 7.
Photos and event by Irfan Malik, Website code: pewwvb9.

Come celebrate Carassauga opening ceremonies on Friday night at 7:30 pm on the Outdoor main stage at the Mississauga SportZone, north parking lot (See Map below), featuring a Parade of Nations, Special Guests and Musical Performances. In addition to the welcome formalities by the Chair of the Festival and dignitaries and the Opening Night Ceremony, Carassauga Festival is pleased to present Dance of Nations.

This is a kaleidoscope of color and cultures and launches the 3-day Festival celebrating all the countries represented depicting the cultural diversity of the City of Mississauga. Non-stop cultural entertainment throughout the Festival weekend is featured at all Pavilion locations.

The Festival was developed in response to a challenge put out by Mayor Hazel McCallion to all ethno cultural groups at a meeting of her calling in the old City Hall in the fall of 1985. In 2016, 31st Anniversary of Carassauga, 28 Pavilions representing over 70 cultures located in various cultural and recreation centres in Mississauga will give visitors the opportunity to "travel the world" without leaving the City. During the three days, you can move from one Pavilion to another having your Passport stamped as you enter each Pavilion.

Once inside a Pavilion, you are surrounded by the sights, sounds and tastes of the country in which you are visiting. Each Pavilion depicts culture of the country of origin and provides a line-up of entertainment that is offered throughout the three days. Each Pavilion proudly showcases its arts, crafts, foods, entertainment and cultural history.

Interactive entertainment including dance classes and performances, storytelling, skits, fashions shows, games, music, theatre and film. There are activities in which children participate including music, storytelling, arts and crafts. Cooking classes and samples of each country's food are showcased. Many Pavilions exhibit the art of their country and hold a marketplace where visitors can purchase products and souvenirs.

The Kids Zone provides sports and fun filled activities for children of all ages, plus musical entertainment by young performers.

In 2016, Carassauga will continue to offer the delicious Toonie Taste experience for Festival visitors wishing to enjoy a broader sampling of diverse ethnic cuisine. Select, smaller taster plates, each an authentic ethnic dish, will be offered at Pavilions for only a Toonie! Of course, the usual delicious full meal selections will still be available, but the choice is yours! Come to Carassauga and enjoy the tastes of 70 cultures, all delicious, all authentic and a treat for the whole family.

During the Festival passport holders RIDE FREE with MiWay by simply presenting their Passport.
