Sheridan College Study:
"The Use of Natural Health Products in the Elderly"
by Dr. Dalya Abdulla

Go to Online Survey.

You are invited to participate in a study entitled “The Use of Natural Health Products in the Elderly” conducted by Dr. Dalya Abdulla. Dr. Abdulla is from the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Oakville, Ontario, and is collaborating with the Sheridan Elder Research Center (SERC) to conduct this study. You may contact Dr. Abdulla by calling (905) 459-7533 ext. 5298. Study ends August 31, 2012.

The purpose of this research project is to determine the pattern of natural health product usage among older Canadian adults. It is important to understand natural health product usage patterns among older adults to aid health care professionals in personalizing healthcare and preventing unintentional medication errors.

If you are a resident of Ontario, Canada over the age of 55, we invite you to complete this questionnaire. This survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. All potentially identifying information will remain completely confidential, and will be accessed only by Dr. Abdulla or by a member of the research team at SERC. You may choose to stop completion of the questionnaire at any time.

It is anticipated that the results of this study will be shared either as a peer-reviewed publication or presented in a conference. In addition, reports will be provided to participants through the older adult community centers that participated in the research.

To help you complete this survey, you will need to know what a Natural Health Product is. A Natural Health Product (abbreviated as NHP) is any sort of dietary supplement. It can include products such as vitamins, herbs, mineral supplements, botanicals, essential fatty acids, probiotics, homeopathic preparations, or product blends.

Some examples of Natural Health Products (NHPs) include: multivitamins, calcium supplements, St. John’s Wort, Echinacea, Omega 3 Oils, Acidophilus, etc.

"Washer Women" by Barrington Watson

Thursday, July 12, 2012 - 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

All are invited to attend the Opening Reception. Admission to the Art Gallery of Mississauga is FREE.

Info from AGM:

Award-winning multidisciplinary artist Peter Chin will be performing at the opening reception. Born in Kingston, Jamaica and based in Toronto, Chin is a musician/composer, dancer/choreographer and performance artist.

On August 6, 1962, Jamaica became a nation and officially received its Independence from Britain. It is with an immense amount of pride that the Jamaican Diaspora in Canada joins with the island nation in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Independence.

Under the Patronage of the Jamaican High Commissioner, Her Excellency, Sheila Sealy Monteith and Jamaican Consul General to Toronto, Seth George Ramoco with the Jamaica 50 Celebration Inc. will unveil a summer of events in the areas of Art, Literature, Dance and Theatre, which will celebrate the island?s vibrant cultural heritage.

The exhibition is guest curated by Dr. Veerle Poupeye, Executive Director at the National Gallery of Jamaica. The exhibition explores changing ideas about art in Jamaica from the period from Independence in 1962 to the present day, placed in the context of broader developments in Jamaican culture and society. Poupeye has curated juxtaposing work that was produced by influential Jamaican artists in the period around Independence with groundbreaking national artists of the early 21st century. The exhibition presents a ?then? and ?now? view of Jamaican art.

?In showcasing and sharing some of the best of Jamaica?s artistic patrimony, we hope to engage our fellow Canadians in a different dialogue about what Jamaica is and who Jamaicans are. Art is a form of communication that is inclusive and has the capacity to break down barriers.? ~ Paula de Ronde, Art and Literature Chair, Jamaica 50 Celebration Inc.

The exhibition features works by some of Jamaica?s most well known artists of the 1962 era such as Edna Manley, Barrington Watson, Albert Huie, Mallica ?Kapo? Reynolds and Laura Facey.

?It is an honour for the AGM to take part in this important 50th Anniversary exhibition celebrating Jamaican independence. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to connect and learn from the plurality of artistic visions from such a multi-faceted culture as Jamaica. Mississauga is a multi-cultural community ? what a fantastic venue to showcase Jamaican art to the region!? ~ Robert Freeman, Executive Director, Art Gallery of Mississauga.

The exhibition is presented by Jamaica 50 Celebration Inc., in collaboration with the National Gallery of Jamaica, hosted at the Art Gallery of Mississauga with the assistance of the Mississauga Arts Council.

Monday, August 20, 2012 - 2:00 p.m.

Rated: PG, 89 min - Action | Adventure | Comedy

Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (film) from Wikipedia. "Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (often referred to as Spy Kids 4D, also known as Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World and Spy Kids 4D: All the Time in the World) is a 2011 American 4D family-oriented adventure film directed by Robert Rodriguez and the fourth installment in the Spy Kids series. It was released on August 19, 2011. Filming began on October 27, 2010. It is the first of the series that uses "Aromascope" that allows people to smell odors and aromas from the film via scratch & sniff cards (reminiscent of the infamous 1960s Smell-O-Vision) last used theatrically in the 2003 animated film Rugrats Go Wild."

Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (2011) - Plot synopsis from IMDb. "On the surface, Marissa Cortez Wilson (Jessica Alba) has it all...married to a famous spy hunting television reporter, a new baby and intelligent twin step kids. But in reality, trying to mother Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard) and Cecil (Mason Cook), who clearly dont want her around, is her toughest challenge yet. Also, her husband, Wilbur (Joel McHale), wouldnt know a spy if he lived with one, which is exactly the case - Marissa's a retired secret agent . . ." ~ Last updated by PrincessByJesus.

Let's Celebrate Multiculturalism!

Cultural mosaic is a term used to describe the mix of different ethnic groups, languages and cultures that peacefully co-exist within our Canadian society.

Canada promotes the idea to integrate all ethnic groups to create a sense of multiculturalism. Canada prides itself at home and abroad as a country made up of a cultural mosaic, based on the belief that Canada as a whole becomes stronger by having different groups bring their cultural diversity for all Canadians to learn from.

We invite you to come and enjoy the Multicultural Mosaic Festival at Streetsville Memorial Park. There will be a wide range of attractions from ethnic foods, to lives shows. In addition, there will also be many retail vendors for families to enjoy.
