Mississauga Celebration Square

MuslimFest 2015 Google image from http://muslimfest.com/

Saturday, August 1, 2015 - 12:00 - 11:00 pm
Sunday, August 2, 2015 - 12:00 - 9:00 pm

The event is FREE and is open to everyone.

Celebrate Eid at North America's largest Muslim art, entertainment and culture festival: MuslimFest 2015. There will be special film screenings held in the Noel Ryan Auditorium at the Mississauga Central Library which is located adjacent to the Celebration Square.

Watch a display of performances in song, poetry, theatre, comedy, and more. Visual art pieces will be on display in addition to the annual live mural demo. Have a taste of the amazing food participating food vendors will be serving.

More detailed info:
MuslimFest returns to Mississauga Celebration Square in its 14th year and is expecting 25,000 visitors over the 2 days, August 1 and 2, 2015.

The essential role of art based in traditional and contemporary Islamic context is prevalent throughout the festival. The event showcases entertainment that is hundreds of years old but also retains a lineup of new performers ready to become household names. It is this cultural fusion that sets MuslimFest apart and enjoyed by attendees of all backgrounds and age groups.

The two-day festival will host local artists from across North America and around the world including renowned Light Calligraphy artist Julien Breton from France.

MuslimFest unofficially begins on Friday, July 31, 2015 with the first ever Canadian premier of American Sharia, a movie directed, produced and starred by Omar Regan (Rush Hour 2), Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts, and not to be missed, YouTube celebrity and 'hijabista' YazTheSpaz.

The evening includes an Art Exhibition showcasing inspirational pieces on why faith matters. The Talent Performance segment allows new artists to demonstrate their skills. Friday's itinerary aims to stimulate discussion regarding Muslim identity in entertainment and have local performers recognized by their community.

Throughout the weekend, the Main Stage will host live performances including local musicians Yusra and Moez Shihab, Kitchener and Waterloo talent Dawud Wharnsby, performances by CNN contributor and Comedy Central's Dean Obaidullah along with Allah Made Me Funny's star Preacher Moss. Please see MuslimFest Schedule for full details.

Attendees at the event will have an opportunity to indulge in an international culinary experience and walk through a modern Silk Road bazaar where merchants sell cultural clothes, interior design pieces and ornaments from around the world. Children can enjoy the camel and carnival rides, and break a sweat at a basketball tournament.

Opening August 6, 2015, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Show runs through until August 31, 2015
iMAGEMAKER Gallery open daily, 1:00 - 5:00 pm

PORT CREDIT, ON - During the month of August 2015, from the 3rd to the 31st, Imagemaker Gallery will become a WILD zone. Four artists have taken up the challenge to interpret their concepts of "wild". Sjon de Groot, Ron Sypher, Nancy Phillips and Alison Syer all have completely different ideas of what "wild" means to each of them.

The images presented range from creatures of the wild and barren landscapes to wild creatures of flight.

Alison Syer, a textile artist, painstakingly duplicates the exact colours and dimensions of some of the most beautiful butterflies imaginable and displays them as one would real specimens. She will be displaying some of her "Psyche" collection, a body of work dedicated to those fighting depression, those who have won, those who have been lost and those trying to cope with that loss.

Sjon de Groot and Ron Sypher are presenting a variety of wild creatures in their work, from tigers and elephants to a bald eagle and a great blue heron.

Nancy Phillips is showing some very wild looking environments in her watercolours.

Join Imagemaker on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 7 pm to enter the WILD zone.

Info from: www.portcreditbuskerfest.com: What is a Busker Festival? Buskers are gutsy street performers. Theatre in the street. Comedians, contortionists, magicians and mimes, sword-swallowers and human statues. Jugglers, escape artists and acrobats. Each performer vying to out-perform the last, for a toss of a coin in the hat.

The buskers will rotate around Port Credit throughout the weekend to different performance spots - also known as pitches. Expect to experience side-splitting comedy, eye-popping acrobatics and mind-bending daredevil stunts!

See the Buskers. This year's lineup features performers from Germany, Japan, Thailand, Italy, Brazil, Ireland, Australia, USA, UK & Canada.

Check out Buskerfest Performance Schedule.

BUSKER ACADEMY ~ FREE - Come out and meet the Buskers and learn some of the busker skills they have to offer. Who knows maybe you too can be a busker someday - See schedule for details. Please note: Children must be accompanied by an adult in Memorial Park Gazebo.
