Message from the President

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I thank each and everyone for their participation in our 15th Anniversary Crystal Extravaganza celebration which was a huge success. Thanks to a lot of hard work by the Committee who arranged the whole event. This event was subsidized by the revenue generated at the other 15th Anniversary events: Information and Active Living Fair in March, the Variety Show in May, the Mystery Bus Trip in September, plus financial support and "in kind" support from some of our constant and continual sponsors. Our thanks go to Square One Shopping Centre and Oxford Properties Group, Design2Decor Inc., Diageo, Retirement Residences Group, Balloon FX Inc., Cawthra Gardens, Swarovski, Carisma Florists, Circus Design Group Inc., Mississauga Central Lions Club, and Tilley Endurables.

We replaced the stage flooring over the summer, which is now complete and beautiful. Sorry for any inconvenience this caused. We are now moving forward with erecting some appropriate signage on the two upper entrances to the Centre and also some much needed upgrades to the Program Room. We ask for your patience while we get working on this.

We now look forward to all our winter programs and hope that everyone enjoys the coming seasonal events.

~ Shirley Corbett, President

Message from the Executive Director

I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the 66 participants who walked in our 10th Annual Walk-a-thon on Friday, October 19, 2007. The event was a grand success for the Older Adult Centre! Congratulations to our top three pledge collectors. Thank you to our members and friends who generously sponsored the dedicated participants. We also applaud our sponsors for the event: Breakfast Sponsor - Jack Astors, Pit Stop Sponsors - Natrel, Palisades on the Glen, Region of Peel and TOPS. We also thank the Mississauga Central Lions Club for the bags.

The Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services generously provided the Older Adult Centre with an Emergency Defibrillator, which is located in the lobby by the pay phone. All staff have been trained on the safe use of the Defibrillator.

Thank you to our 12 volunteer surveyors and to the over 140 members and 40 non-members who participated recently in the Building Bridges to Tomorrow  Survey. We worked with the Older Adult Centres' Association of Ontario (OACAO) to conduct the surveys. The goal is to identify the issues and trends that we will face in the future and to use this data to improve our programs and services.

~ Sue Hesjedahl, Executive Director
