"As we welcome the year 2017, we celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary and the half-century mark since the establishment of the Tzu Chi Foundation. While our footprints of love and compassion continue to spread throughout the communities, we are thankful for all of the members and volunteers who ceaselessly support the Tzu Chi Foundation."
The Chinese New Year Blessings Ceremony will be held by GTA Tzu Chi volunteers and you are cordially invited to witness the contributions made by Tzu Chi volunteers across the world in 2016. Additionally, they will sincerely perform 'Sutra of Profound Gratitude to Parents' to promote filial piety, morals and gratitude.
You are welcome to join them in experiencing a spiritual, one-of-a-kind, heart-warming ceremony, where kind thoughts are collectively gathered.
"Let us pray together that in this brand new year, may peace and comfort be brought to all families, and may there be no disasters or hardships in the world."
Info from Tzu Chi Foundation Missions:
"In 1966, Dharma Master Cheng Yen established the Tzu Chi Foundation in Hualien (Taiwan). With the spirit of self-discipline, diligence, frugality, and perseverance, Tzu Chi set out to help the poor and relieve suffering.
Tzu Chi ... expanded to all five major continents of the world with chapters and offices in 47 countries. Tzu Chi provides aid to over 69 nations.
The shared goal of Tzu Chi volunteers is to cultivate sincerity, integrity, faith, and honesty within while exercising kindness, compassion, joy, and selflessness to humanity through concrete actions. Transcending the bounds of race, nationality, language, and religion, they serve the world under the notion that 'when others are hurting, we feel their pain; when others suffer, we feel their sorrow'.
Tzu Chi Foundation's 'Four Major Missions' consist of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanity. Furthermore, considering ongoing efforts in Bone Marrow Donation, Environmental Protection, Community Volunteerism, and International Relief, these eight concurrent campaigns are collectively known as 'Tzu Chi's Eight footprints'."

Instructor: Susan Stephens, RHN
There is a lot of confusion today when it comes to the root of diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, sinusitis, and the 3 A's: auto-immune, asthma, and allergies (food and environmental sensitivities). Some believe it's from something external; like germs, viruses, or dander. Others swear it's from wheat, dairy, and flaky puff pastries. Unfortunately, we are truly mistaken to think it's only one cause, too often chasing the magic pill that we feel is the cure, only to be let down repeatedly. I know because I've been there and I wish it were that simple.
COME, join Susan Stephens and learn about the factors that affect immunity, such as heavy metal toxicity, parasites, candida, and more. What you can do about it and where to start?

Overcoming the Maladies of Aging: 10:30 am
Wight gain, arthritis, hearing loss, and pain. Those are just a few of the maladies traditionally associated with aging. Now that people are living longer and healthier, we also have the tools and the innovations to overcome them. TheZoomer looks at some of latest aging hacks and brings in experts to share tips and advice on how to age well.
Nursing Home Violence: 1:30 pm
As nursing home residents grow older and sicker, we are facing a growing wave of violent dementia in our Long Term Care (LTC) homes. This has led to 13 homicides in Ontario in recent years and many incidents like the one in Dundas, Ontario's St. Joseph's Villa in which resident James Acker was brutally beaten while sleeping. TheZoomer looks at nursing home violence. Acker's daughter joins the panel along with advocates and others offering insights into what needs to be done to stop it.
Refreshments/snacks will be served and there is FREE parking in the lot (also very TTC accessible).
So, grab a colleague, bring a friend, rally your group, and book your FREE tickets! Register at Eventbrite.ca. Please leave a phone number so a team member can confirm your seat prior to the show.

The aim of the program is to reduce social isolation among seniors while helping entrepreneurs gain access to valuable skills and expertise."

February 14 is former Mayor McCallion's birthday. Mississauga-Brampton South MPP Amrit Mangat's legislation, Bill 16, received support from all parties and became law on December 8, 2016 when the Ontario Legislature proclaimed February 14 of each year as Hazel McCallion Day. See Hazel McCallion Day Act, 2016, S.O. 2016, c. 27.
MPP Mangat's rationale in sponsoring Bill 16 includes the following: "Hazel McCallion is a public figure who is a true example of tenacity, courage, fighting spirit and sincerity. The Bill hopes to raise the profile of Hazel McCallion as a role model for women, and in particular young impressionable women, in order to inspire them to pursue life paths as leaders in their community and professional lives".
To further mark Hazel McCallion Day festivities, the City's clock tower will be lit up in the colour red on February 14. Mayor Bonnie Crombie remarks that "Hurricane Hazel was a city-builder and a nation-builder. She continues to be a staple at Canada Day festivities in Port Credit, at Celebration Square and in Streetsville, wearing red and white and the Maple Leaf flag ... "
To mark this important milestone, Mayor Crombie and MPP Mangat will host a community reception ceremony with former Mayor Hazel McCallion, Council, dignitaries and members of the community. During the reception, McCallion will be formally presented with a copy of Bill 16.
The entire community is invited to come together to celebrate the life and accomplishments of former mayor Hazel McCallion - a larger than life public servant who shaped Mississauga's future and always put our community first.
RSVP to: hazelmccallionday.com. Please note: you do NOT need to bring a printed copy of your ticket to the event.
