"The Most Beautiful Lighthouse in the World"
See Google Photo Album

leaf Paul Sibley worked steadily from mid March to early April 2019 to build what I consider to be "The Most Beautiful Lighthouse in the World" at the Streetsville Care Community in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Thank you very much, Paul, for giving this beautiful lighthouse to us as a gift. Greatly appreciated. We will forever treasure it. View the building of the Lighthouse and the finished product in this Google Web Album.

A brief biography of Paul Sibley:

Born on June 6, 1929 in Alton (2006 population: 1,906), a rural community in Nova Scotia, located in Colchester County. The Canadian National Railway line between Truro, Nova Scotia and Halifax passes through Alton. [~ Wikipedia]

Paul stood 6' 3" tall in his younger years but says he has since shrunk a couple of inches.

He was brought up on a farm. In 1950, when he was 21, he came to Toronto. He worked for farm machinery manufacturer Massey Harris of Canada. In 1953, the two farm machinery manufacturers, Massey Harris of Canada and the Ferguson Company in Britain, merged to form Massey Ferguson Limited, a manufacturer of agricultural equipment and is now a subsidiary of AGCO.

Paul also worked a couple of years on the Railroad. His career as a professional Truck Driver began when he started working for the T. Eaton Company Limited, i.e. Eaton's. For 33 years, Paul drove trucks for Eaton's and had a record 3,000,000 miles under his belt. After his retirement from Eaton's, he continued to work for a few more years as a truck driver for SLH Transport Inc. He officially retired at age 60. But his urge to drive a truck did not diminish. One year at around Christmas time after retirement, he put in an application to Sears to be a truck driver. He did not hear from Sears for a long time. Surprisingly, in July the following year, Sears contacted him and hired him as one of their truck drivers. Paul worked a couple of years for Sears, but finally got bored and retired again.

Now 90 years old, Paul is still very sharp and has no problem completing hundreds of Word Puzzles. He has also meticulously built quite a few intricate lighthouses of his own design using tongue depressors which he carefully cuts, shapes, colours and glues to create lighthouse structures with windows, doors, ladders, etc. When completed, Paul generously gives away his painstakingly constructed lighthouses. One example of such a lighthouse is seen in the photo above. With all the time, effort and patience Paul has put into creating such a lighthouse, I am sure you will agree with me that undoubtedly, it has to be "The Most Beautiful Lighthouse in the World!"

Currently, Paul is an active member of the Residents' Councils Shared Leadership Team at Streetsville Care Community, a Long Term Care Home in Mississauga, where he resides. He is truly a marvelous and most amazing gentleman that you would ever want to meet.
